12:22 pm - Leaving this community; final challenge

barbary_coast
I realize that it was my turn to issue the next challenge. I also realize that I have not participated in this community since it started. I've got one, half-finished story that I started specifically for this community. During my usual work week, I don't have any time at all to write. I've had a nice respite from work with my vacation, but I'm about to plunge back into my schedule which will once again leave me with no spare time to participate here. Since I don't think that it's fair to hang around without participating, I've decided to leave this community. Sorry everyone!

I won't leave without at least naming the next challenge. The next challenger is Sus1206.

Set your story at the sea shore.

rawly
Date of next Challenge: November 1st.
Name of next Victim: Barbary_coast
Challenge: Death. The theme of death should be the focus of the story. No one necessarily has to die, as long as death discussed. This is partly inspired by a ficlet that Cyloran posted here early and the fact that I have an idea for this one that will allow me to respond to this one and to another challenge at the same time. *big grin*

In_Progress is not officially a member but is simply watching. As such she is not required to post a challenge, but can if she/he wishes. If by the end of next Sunday In_progress has not posted I will assume she/he will not and I will post another challenge and victim. Thank you to all for your contributions! This has been a wonderful group and I have enjoyed it tremendously.

Name of next Victim: in_progress because that's how I feel right now. I'm in progress.

Hopefully one of these days I will get around to posting something I've written myself...Some of the challenges look interesting and promising...Maybe someone out there will thenk the same of mine...and respond to it on-list. We'll see...

7:19 pm - Next challenge

ex_kisa_haw
Hello all.

I've been thinking about this challenge since I was picked to put one up. I have been jonesing for this particular idea for a while... since my most recent favorite author has stalled on his/her wonderful series. As an aside, I'm sorry I've been so unproductive about putting up my own fics. Someday I will, and won't you all be surprised!

Challenge: Discovery *and* angst. For example: Someone learns something new about themselves. Somebody (maybe the person, maybe someone else) is not so sure what to do about that.
Date of next Challenge: 10-4-2003
Name of next Victim: ceruleanoctober, because I like your name and because it'll be October. ^__^

rawly
Mostly that is my fault. I started school and then had 4 tests this week. The last one is tomorrow... yes I do mean Saturday... but I have no intention of studying for this one so I should be back on track for posting again. Susan's challenge is do tomorrow. *bounce bounce* or should that be *hint hint*. *grin* Plus I promise to have a Regret story up soon. Susie Q and I have mapped one out we just have to write it. Remember everyone, this is not a contest for who can write the best, it is just a place to force ourselves to exercise our abilities. If we are not writing then we are not improving. Again, I promise to have something up soon, I just don't promise that it is very good. *grin*

I had this heart-attack last night when I went looking for one of my old journal entries and could not find it. Sus to the rescue! Anyway, while I was panicking over the thought that it was lost forever I started fearing for the safety of the stories we have posted here. I was wondering how everyone would feel to storing everyone's stories on a Plot Bunny Inc. website. Sus and I could make a page just dedicated to our stuff with all the threatenings of mass mutilation if anyone steals the ideas. Opinions?

I've been working on mine for three weeks because the challenge has been floating around in my brain for a while, and so the first part and most of the second is all done :P But I'm not retyping the whole thing onto a PC, no way. So I'm going to wait until my new modem for the Mac gets ordered, shipped, and hooked up (which at this rate could be September *sigh*). So, once I get the Pet-peeve done, I'll be pretty quiet on here, in terms of posts :(

It has been one heck of a week. Not even going into details because I am already depressed enough. The good news is that the new challenge is up and Blantie has not gone running off in terror at being selected to post the next challenge. I have also found another cool writing site. For everyone who is interested here is the link.

http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Hills/9414/hmg1.html

I have not had a chance to go through it completely, but if anyone gets a chance I would be interested in their opinions. I will also post mine when I am done. Have fun everyone, and happy writing.

Ack! Two weeks went by incredibly fast! I have been working on my Rainbow Connection challenge but my computer ate my homework. Honest! I should have the first part up in a couple of days. A reminder notice, just because we have posted another challenge does not mean you can't post on the last one. Just specify which challenge you are posting to. Also, if you have a challenge you would like to post in more than one update you are free to do so, just use the instructions in the group user info to put in a link so that we can find each part.

Challenge: This is the Pet Peeve Challenge. Somewhere in the story you must include a pet peeve of your own, or one of the characters.

6:21 am - Interesting faq's

rawly
First, I am attempting to link journal entries based off the information given in the FAQ. If this doesn't work I am just going to delete this post anyway, so if someone is reading this just assumed it worked. I am copy pasting the comments page of my first journal entry. I am also adding the link to the FAQ page where I got the information from. I'll put that up on in the profile as soon as I figure out whether or not it works.

FAQ Page

Also, last night before I crashed and burned I ran across two killer pages that had writing exercises and other useful tidbits. I'll post them here in case anyone needs help coming up with their own or is interested. Both, in my opinion, were very good.

10:35 am - Story Headings?

cyloran
Yay for Plot Bunnies! *rubbing hands together* I'm ready to post the first challenge, and will do so -- on Saturday. But I have a wee question. What format should we use for posting stories? I'm assuming that the stories themselves should be placed behind a lj-cut (so as not to spam Friend's Lists with a zillion page document if you get the inspiration for the Great American Novel). But should we also post a header in front of the cut? For example:

Challenge Name: (name of challenge being responded to)
Story Title:
Author: (pen name, LJ name, whatever)
Universe: (original, LOTR, Poltergeist, etc.)
Characters:
Rating: (G, PG, PG-13, R, NC-17)
Slash: (yes or no)
Summary: (brief summary of story)
Disclaimer:

Any additions/deletions/objections, anyone?

7:37 am - Continuing debate from last post...

rawly
The question has been raised about fandom specific challenges. As I really don't see this as my community, but OUR community this is simply my opinion and is still open for debate.

Two cents here... I personally feel that most challenges can be worded in such a way that makes them non-fandom specific... for example. Write a story detailing the rings affects on any two members of the fellowship. Pretty fandom specific hu? But with a little imagination it could be... Write a story detailing the affects of a evil magical item on any two main characters. See? Simple. If someone has a fandom specific challenge that they are absolutely dying to do they can post the fandom here and we can vote on it. How does that sound?
